This highlights problem with India.. Social Media is just scapegoat

I think this clearly shows that India need to work more on it's infrastructure and education and awareness.. It is easy to blame on something like Facebook, Twitter or Google.. These are superb tools and like everything can be used or mis-used. We know for sure that all these tools have been greatly used in Arab-spring. There most of the population really used it for their advantage.

Now here in India, we are seeing reverse. These graphics and messages floating are creating reverse impact.. they are meant to be creating hatred and anger among different sects of the population. However, these are just inert messages or images.. Interpretation of these messages and images is up to human brain. How they interpret depends upon the environment, education, social values and trust system among fellow human and rest of the system. If the trust level is so low, then any image or message can inflame any kind of riot.. it doesn't need these social media sites.. it is not that these kind of things didn't happened earlier.. people used paper or print media to do that in past.. did we stop using paper or print media?

This is totally ridiculous.. Government or rather than that, population of India needs to first introspect and find out root cause of these kind of things. Root cause is lack of education, lack of trust on government or police for that matter.. off course rampant corruption at all levels tops it up... Going after these social media sites is simple distraction from core fundamental issue..

Leaders pressure Web companies to restrict hate speech

By Vikas Bajaj

New York Times

MUMBAI, India — The Indian government’s efforts to stem a weeklong panic among some ethnic minorities has again put it at odds with Internet companies like Google, Facebook and Twitter.

Officials in New Delhi, who have had disagreements with the companies over restrictions on free speech, say the sites are not responding quickly enough to their requests to delete and trace the origins of doctored photos and incendiary posts aimed at people from northeastern India. After receiving threats online and on their
phones, tens of thousands of students and migrants from the northeast have left cities like Bangalore, Pune and Chennai in the last week.

The government has blocked 245 Web pages since Friday, but still many sites are said to contain fabricated images of violence against Muslims in the northeast and in neighboring Myanmar meant to incite Muslims in cities such as Bangalore and Mumbai to attack people from the northeast. India also restricted cellphone users to five text messages a day each for 15 days in an effort to limit the spread of rumors.

Officials from Google and industry associations said they were cooperating fully with the authorities. Some industry executives
and analysts added that some requests had not been heeded because they were overly broad or violated internal policies and the rights of users.

The government, used to exerting significant control over media like newspapers, films and television, has in recent months been frustrated in its effort to extend similar and greater regulations to websites, most of which are based in the United States. Late last year, an Indian minister tried to get social media sites to prescreen content created by their users before it was posted. The companies refused and the attempt failed under withering public criticism.

While just 100 million of India’s 1.2 billion people use the Internet regularly, the numbers are growing fast
among people younger than 25, who make up about half the country’s population.

Sunil Abraham, an analyst who has closely followed India’s battles with Internet companies, said last week’s effort to tackle hate speech was justified but poorly managed. He said the first directive from the government was impractically broad, asking all Internet “intermediaries” — a category that includes small cybercafes, Internet service providers and companies like Google and Facebook — to disable all content that was “inflammatory, hateful and inciting violence.”

Ministers have blamed groups in Pakistan, a neighbor with which India has tense relations, for creating and uploading many of the hateful pages and doctored
 images.

Should we legalize Drugs?

Are we able to prevent drugs consumption by making it illegal? Who has really benefitted from drug illegalization? All the drugs will be cheaper by at least by factor of thousand if they were legal. That means that drugs will be easily sold as over the counter in pharmacies and many more shops in some kind of brands or specifications!!! Very bad situation!!! right..

That also means, no money for drug dealers, corrupt police/Politicians or any one else who is currently benefitting from it. All the money which is currently made by middlemen like gangs, traffickers, police etc would stay in legal hands. Actually it will simply vanish. On top of it, amount of money we spend on prevention could be utilized to educate masses and may be on proper medical care.

Question is.. Are economic benefits worth taking chances of few additional 100Ks more drug addict?

Actually biggest argument against legalization of drugs is that even one innocent life is worth keeping it illegal. Even one life getting spoiled due to legal drugs addiction is worth saving. I agree with both of them. Question is.. Are more lives are saved or lost due to illegal status of drugs? Are we able to prevent lifes of innocent people getting spoiled because of drugs?

In my view societies are loosing more lifes because of illegal status of drugs. I agree that there is no defined way of measuring if-but-else statements about it. As to my best of knowledge these drugs have been illegal right from beginning of normal human evolution.

Are their any examples of any country or state where drugs are legal.. I heard it is almost legal in Amsterdam.. What are the stats in there.. Is every kid who goes to high school is drug addict? I don't think so. What can we learn from these kind of examples if et all they exist...

They say that drug consumption is in-elastic.. means that whatever happens, if some one takes drug they will need it whatever the price of it may be. if price goes high, they will some how manage to arrange that high amount for it.. and this is the problem as it leads to high rate of petty crimes which leads to new petty criminals. Once these petty criminals are caught and they go to jail they turn to be hard core criminals... and ultimately leads to higher amount of bigger crimes..

Despite all these pro-legalization thoughts I still feel shaken by the fact that what will be society look like with legal drugs.. I have kids and I can't imagine them going to grocery store or pharmacy and getting drugs.. just like today's kids try to get Alcohol. At the same time not every kid go out and try to get alcohol.. Lot of it depends on parenting, society and the values kids get. If we and kids can determine and use judgement on alcohol kind of things.. why can't we be left to use same judgement on drugs.. Especially when they can save tens of thousands of lives of innocents..

I think we had enough of this non-sense and time has come to decide about these issues. We need to re-structure our laws and align them with new realities..

What is Love?

Is love a feeling or sentiment or hormones or brain chemistry or heart muscles or matrix or God or action or verb or what?? Is it one way or has to be two way?? What drives it?? Why we love certain things or people at certain time and then we love something else or somebody else at some other time. Why it keeps on changing.. or in some cases stays constant.. But then Change is only Constant of the world so it can't be constant.. It has to change. Why it becomes understanding or compromise.. why can't our pure and solid love for things and people remain constant what ever the time or circumstances may be?

Which factors influence our love to certain other objects and living things or even certain groups like nations or religion or language or so many N number of things.. Why we are ready to die for love, say of other human or religion or nation and now many a times ready to take life of others in the name of love of... What exactly generates love and what annihilates it.. Is it matter Vs dark matter balance issue? Is it some kind of cosmic combination which effects it..

Enough of questions.. I am sure everyone has lot of theories and understanding about it..

For now, some of my theories.. I think origin of love should be attributed to basic motivation or greed or fear of human brain cells.. Before you dump my theory, remember I am not talking about only about certain aspect of love.. I am fairly generic and at very high level at this point.. Still I strongly believe that every lovely relationship starts with either of these factors.. Be it love for child, mother/parent, opposite sex, religion, nation and any other kind of lovely groups or individuals or things or physical or mental objects.. Once human brain (or for that matter any living thing's brain) sees some thing which will either satisfy or protect them from something, they will start loving that individual or group.. Sometimes motivation is so great for certain entity that we ignore bigger picture of humanity that we ought to love everyone or everything. Due to extremely high motivational forces for certain entity we even start hating some other entities. Let us keep this topic to love only for now ;-)

After that it depends on our actions and involvement with the other entity. I think verb form of love takes over after that. Then it is up to us to keep on cultivating love bank or certain point, start diminishing it.. Multiple other factors like genetics, social environment, education or more importantly our ability to think and process information drives it. We start calling it maturity or understanding or many other names.. Ideally, love should be without any motivation but I don't know anyone who has that kind of love.. Even if someone says that they only love this planet or universe, that also is driven by our ultimate survival..

More important is how to continue love for that entity over a period of time without too much of deltas on time curve.. I guess, for this we need to create awareness in ourselves that we love certain entity and we need to keep loving it. If we want love to continue without too much of diminishing returns then we need to work for it. We need to take certain actions such that other entity sees them as love not just by using words.. There is very good chance that if we continue to take actions close enough to selflessly (though as per  my earlier principle or theory there is nothing like selflessness) we may find some decent return on those actions throughout the life.. But everyone is good at least by their own definition... then it is quite possible that they may still not see it selfless love as their expectation of actions to prove your selfless love may be different.. In this case, most important thing is honesty.. Once you are honest, you will be brave, and you will communicate and clearly outline your selfish interest (however minor they may be) behind your loving actions and hopefully this will result in other person/entity returning the favor and tell you what kind of actions constitutes as selfless love to them..  Once this happens there could be fairly constant love for those entities..

Cheers!!!!!

Can religion bring peace to earth?

Very interesting conversation happened yesterday when two elderly ladies from local church showed up at my house. After our usual hi-hello, they asked me a very simple but powerful question... Do I believe that religion can bring peace to earth?

Well, my answer was equally easy and powerful. I told them that in my view "Religious is root cause of all the wars and evil in this planet. You take out all the religions of world and you might have perfect peace loving planet earth and earthlings"

I guess in modern times, root cause of all the wars and fighting and hatred is religion. Off course I don't blame any single religion. All of them share responsiblity. We can argue about the share of responsiblity but it can't be denied.

Well, then comes the question of origin of these religions. All of them were founded by great great leaders or what we call Gods today. I strongly believe that all the religions and their holy books teach to love everyone else. However, it is the interpretation by the followers and the kaput human brain which makes these religions so dangerous and create so much of hatred instead of peace. Sooner or later everyone will start realizing and try to do something to get rid of all these..

Another thing which drives and feeds religious fanatism is fear and greed.. We go to God in hope that God will return or bless us with all the worldly benefits if we are nice to him. I guess, we just need to be nice to our fellow human beings and rest will be taken care of. Unfortunately this message is often subsided by current religious leaders and instead of that only hatred to other religious groups comes out which ultimately causes all the grief and war and evil in this world.
